Glacier National Park was a wonderful summer job!
It is the most beautiful place I have ever been. I met a lot of really great people and had a blast at the same time.
I worked at St. Mary’s in 1997. There were so many different things to do all summer.
Loved It!

Finding myself while working in Glacier National Park for a summer
Lea Jacquemart
It was after my fourth year in college that I decided I needed a change of scenery. I spent 22 years of my life living on the flat land in the midwest and I had the desire for elevation.
After ending a three year relationship with my college sweetheart, my good pal Jenny told me that she was thinking about working at a national park for a summer season. I told Jenny that I was lost and ready for some changes, she suggested applying at Glacier Park Inc – I did so not realizing the chain of events that followed.
Jenny never got hired, but I did as a pastry chef at Lake McDonald Lodge. It was when I was on my college spring break in South Padre, Texas when I got the phone call that ignited the flame inside of me: I was going to be living and working in Glacier National Park for the summer.
I had only seen mountains on TV and in books. For the first time, at 22 years old, I saw the epic historic masses that make up one of the finest national gemstones in this country.
While in MN, I prepared for my summer job in Glacier National Park. I bought a one-way train ticket from St. Cloud, MN to East Glacier Lodge, MT and packed my necessities.
Nothing prepared me for the first time I saw Glacier National Park, especially the turquoise glacial waters of Lake McDonald.
My breath was taken away and lost in the mountains forever.
I could go on for days and days about the two summers I spent in the park. Whoever reads this already knows how magical Glacier National Park is–and for those that don’t, well, go to Glacier and find out for yourself.
My life began at age 22 and it has been nothing short of amazing since.
Thank you Glacier National Park, for finding me.

Working in Many Glacier Hotel from 93-96
Kelly Holland
Working as a bartender in Many Glacier Hotel from 1993-1996 were some of the best summers ever.
Some of my favorite memories include:
The hundreds of miles hiked in Glacier National Park…
Coming over Swiftcurrent Pass…
Heading up to Sperry Chalet and Glacier…
I would encourage anyone to take the plunge and get a job in Glacier National Park because whether it’s hiking, making new friends, or getting wasted on a regular basis, it is a very exciting and surreal experience.
Trust me I know and wouldn’t change a thing.
Happy trails to all new and old!

Its been five years since my summer in Glacier, but the effects this place had on my life are still very present today. When I turned 18, I was living in my home town, bored and wanting more out of my life. My brother worked at Lake McDonald the summer before, so I called him one night past midnight and he convinced me to apply right then. It was by far the best decision I have ever made for myself. I jumped on a train in May, waering flip-flops and a tank top (it was spring in Cali) and stepped into the snowy mountains. I was terrified and so excited to start a new chapter. The summer in Glacier helped bring me back to earth, I made life long freinds and have memories that will stay with me forever. I fell back in love with myself as well as with a very special someone. I truely believe the mountains there are magic, and if you allow them, they will heal you. I recommend visiting Glacier to anybody who wants to experience pure happiness. By far the most epic and memorable summer of my life.

Working in Many Glacier Hotel, Glacier National Park – Best Summer Ever
Lenka
The summer I spent working in Glacier National Park’s Many Glacier Hotel was the best summer of my life.
I came from a little state in the heart of Europe called Slovakia. For about 15 years the students from Universities in Slovakia go for a Work & Travel Program to USA.
There are different options how to get job in USA. One is a job fair, where people from different places in USA offer the jobs.
When I attended the job fair, there was one offer to work in Glacier National Park in Montana.
I have to say, that the decision to go there, in the middle of nowhere was difficult, but the accommodation and food, which was provided by Glacier Park Inc for a few dollars helped me make my decision (the beautiful Glacier National Park photos helped, too!)
I applied for the job and I never regretted this decision.
My summer there was full of new experiences, fun, hiking, sledding in July and other adventures. I met a lot of interesting people from all over the world and I’m still in touch with a lot of them. I improved my English. I knew myself there …
I had to fall in love in Glacier National Park, but the pity was that I had a boyfriend back home. The true is that I met some great boys there ;).
When I came back home I broke up with my boyfriend, because we were not made for each other. The summer there helped me to recognize it. Nowadays I’m with the man of my life, but I met him a few years after this great summer in Glacier National Park.
I was working in Many Glacier Hotel in the kitchen. I started as a dishwasher, which wasn’t the best for me, but after weeks I worked as a pantry-girl. It was cool.
At the beginning of my summer in Many Glacier Hotel, I was working in morning shift.
After my shift I hung out with friends and I needed a nap. My nap usually ended, when my roommate came from work and we went out with friends again.
Charlie’s was very often the party destination, especially Thursdays (if I remember).
When working the night shift, my days began around noon, then some reading of my favorite book on a balcony, work and hanging out with friends.
What’s my favorite memory? There are so many that I could write a book about them.
But I loved to fight with guys in kitchen. We did a lot of bad thinks to each other, but just for fun.
